You. Clara Montoya

CARME CENTER. Museum, 2

Pure conceptual art. That's what you'll find at the exhibition. You of Clara Montoya, where six synchronized and juxtaposed light machines fluctuate in a bare room creating different atmospheres that aim to evoke the reverberation of the sun on the water or the shine on the waves. But here the installation, abstract and minimalist, is not the protagonist, just the means to tell us a story and make us reflect. Let's go, What do you have to read to understand the heart of the matter?. New Zealand's Whanganui was the first river in the world to be legally recognized as a legal entity after a century and a half lawsuit brought by the Maori people against the British Crown. From this fact, Clara Montoya proposes that we get out of the SELF so that we can question concepts that we have anchored, like “nature” is something external to us, that we do not see ourselves as part of it. And open your eyes to understand new ones: that a river can be considered an indivisible part of a community of people, be seen as an ancestor who is part of the family, that acquires the status of a person and that it begins to have rights and obligations, basically “being a river”, the artist deduced.
