The friars of the Sanctuary of Arantzazu were stupefied when Javier González de Durana, art historian and curator of this exhibition, He asked them for one of the basilica doors made by Chillida for a joint exhibition with Oteiza. Nevertheless, the answer was: “Why don't you take two?”. And so he did, also carrying with him some of the apostles sculpted by Oteiza. This has been the general reaction to the project: great initial skepticism, given the weight of prejudices due to the notorious conflicts between the two Basque artists, giving way later to absolute curiosity and interest. And this exhibition focuses only on what is shared, in the dialogue maintained for so many years between Chillida and Oteiza, on the many points of connection and common interests, like interior and exterior space, The light, geometry, visual sound, the void. Now, more than a hundred works, among sculptures, paintings and other documents, They tell us about how two key figures of 20th century art resolved similar approaches in very different ways. y, twenty years after his death and before our eyes, Oteiza and Chuillida hug again.
