This volume is a selection of writings by Josep Iborra that speak, directly or indirectly, of music. They are not actually texts about music, but reflections around music in relation to culture and the author's personal experience. Josep Iborra was one of the most outstanding Valencian intellectuals of the 20th century. As a literary critic he is already a classic and earned a respect and admiration during his lifetime that continues to this day among the people of the guild. I, however, their interest and fondness for music are not well known, which occupied a very important place in his career. To the point of writing a bunch of intellectual reflection papers on one of the arts par excellence that he most admired and for which he felt an incorruptible inclination.
Some of the writings of Josep Iborra that are collected in this book had already been published in a scattered manner in other publishing houses. Other papers included, But, they are unpublished and complete the very personal vision, analytical and insightful of a writer who was also a great music lover. In addition, this selection is preceded by an essay by one of his children, Joaquim Iborra, a first-hand and unique testimony in which he portrays his father, in all his human dimension and in each of his facets as a scholar and as a person: obsessions and customs, the interests and beliefs he professed, his loyalty to the culture and history of his country. Everything forms a delicious volume in which the reason for the music is the correlate of the reason for the human being linked to the territory, loyal to his country, united forever more to its language and literature.
