Valencia will host next Saturday 28 March cycle Plazas and Performances under the title The look ahead and the roots in the ground, a day dedicated to reflecting on the emergence of contemporary dance in Spain in the eighties and nineties and its projection in the present. This event will include the premiere of the unpublished piece “QUE SI PUÒ FARE, WHAT CAN YOU SAY”, created expressly for the occasion by Mónica Valenciano and María Muñoz. The activity is part of the programming of the Celebration of the 50 years of Spain in freedom, an initiative promoted by the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory. The day will take place in two emblematic spaces in the city: the La Nau Cultural Center of the University of Valencia and the independent space El Consulado, combining professional debate, artistic creation and collective celebration.
The activity will begin at the La Nau Cultural Center with a meeting on contemporary dance that will be held in two sessions: of 12:00 a 14:00 hours and 16:00 a 18:30 hours, with an intermediate break for food between 14:30 and the 15:30 hours. The conversation will bring together creators and professionals from different generations to reflect on the birth of contemporary dance in Spain, the role of València as the epicenter since the creation of the Dansa València Festival in 1988, and the current challenges of a sector marked by precariousness, but also for new forms of creation and organization.
At 19:15 hours, The Cloister of La Nau will host the central moment of the day: the premiere of “QUE SI PUÒ FARE”, WHAT CAN YOU SAY”, creation and interpretation of Mónica Valenciano and María Muñoz, two fundamental figures of contemporary dance in our country. The piece will feature the participation of the Faraig Choir (eight mixed voices) under the direction of Christian Roca, and proposes a dialogue between memory, body and present from an ethical and artistic perspective.
The day will conclude at 21:15 hours at the Consulate, where an exhibition of dance videos will be held - with materials provided by the participants- and a festive meeting open to attendees.
