Lyrics and compass. Chema Madoz

The Center of the Carme Culture Contemporary (CCCC) presents Lyrics and compass, the last exhibition of the National Photography Prize, Chema Madoz, in which he unites for the first time his passion for music and books. Composed of 50 photographs, The exhibition invites the viewer to discover the visual poetry of one of the most internationally recognized Spanish photographers today.. A score made on a loom, a spider playing the piano, a frog in treble clef, two flutes turned into a dangerous weapon, a musical shutter, a whip turned into a note, a mirror book, a violin blade, a book of sand... are some of the images with which the Madrid photographer invites the viewer to enter his fantasy universe, harmony and beauty.

Madoz's obsession focuses on combining objects to turn them into something different., in many cases with clear surrealist references. In recent years Madoz is known for his connection with the world of books, not only through his photographs, but also for the collaborations with writers in addition to Joan Brossa, also with Leopoldo María Panero or, posthumously, Ramon Gomez de la Serna (putting images to his aphorisms). Besides, As a result of his collaboration with different publishers and museums, he has published twenty books. The artist also loves music and this exhibition is a tribute to music and is the first time that he unites his two great passions in one exhibition.: music and lyrics.

Following the artist's aesthetic, The installation of the exhibition itself offers a visual game in the form of a score and introduces the visitor to an immense staff with the images arranged at different heights as if they were musical notes.. A composition made with pins, phrases converted into threads, a ladder book, a written cage, a spider hanging from a sentence, the ink turned into night, a desk turned into a book, a lamp that radiates phrases, a maze of letters, a bookish arc… “this is the fantastic world of Madoz, His works merge with one of the principles of Fine Arts: search for beauty, harmony and the expression of emotions and ideas” and are completed in the viewer's gaze..
