Audiovisual Heritage Days: Moros y cristianos

He 27 October marks World Audiovisual Heritage Day, big festival of film libraries and archives. like every year, the Valencian Film Archive joins the celebrations, but this time it extends the special programming to three days. Three days dedicated to highlighting the work of film archives, guarantors of memory through the conservation of moving images filmed between 1895 and our days.
Valencian film heritage, safeguarded by our Film Archive, stars in two of the sessions. Himself 27 October we celebrate the centenary of Moors and Christians, by Maxiilian Thous, fundamental work in the history of Valencian cinema. We also recover Blood and sand, the only film directed by Blasco Ibáñez, which will be screened after the presentation of the latest book published by the Valencian Film Library Le Romancier. The lost script of Blasco Ibáñez, by Carlos Aimeur.
But the Conferences go beyond the local. They also seek to connect the idea of heritage with the present and claim historical relevance, social and political that the preservation of the audiovisual memory of the people has, especially those beaten by those who insist on erasing them from maps and history. In that context, on thursday 29 We premiere the Palestinian film A Fidai Film in Valencia, applauded as it passes through different festivals. Kamal Aljafari uses Israel's looting of Palestinian films in 1982 as a premise to make visible materials hidden in Israeli archives and propose a counternarrative about a continuous history of appropriation. A Fidai Film establishes an interesting dialogue with Ariana's eyes, which will be screened on the same day followed by a colloquium scheduled in collaboration with the Valencian Academy of Audiovisual in which the director will participate, Ricardo Macian, and Mirwais Rekab, one of the protagonists of the film.
The programming is completed with another premiere, in this case from the film essay Herbaria, directed by the Argentine Leandro Listorti, filmmaker and fellow archivist at the Pablo Ducrós Hicken Film Museum in Buenos Aires, where he directs the conservation and restoration technical coordination area. In this beautiful movie, that manages to be lyrical and didactic at the same time, Listorti relates the work of film and botanical preservation. As if there were no discontinuity between one and the other and they shared everything: the delicacy of his manual art, the resistance of your method against the passage of time, the power of the image versus the power of oblivion. In times of immediacy and threats of extinction due to the uncontrolled development of AI, perhaps the future of humanity depends on the people who strive to preserve the beauty and memory of a world that insists on disappearing.. Let's not give in to forgetfulness. Happy Audiovisual Heritage Day!
