Tribute to Enric Mestre

The National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuous Arts "González Martí" will celebrate the next one 18 of June a tribute event dedicated to Enric Mestre, one of the fundamental figures of contemporary Spanish ceramics and an essential reference in the renewal of the ceramic language since the second half of the 20th century.

The date chosen coincides with the anniversary of Enric Mestre's association with the museum in June 1979, a particularly significant relationship between the artist and the institution that today wants to be publicly recognized and celebrated.

The event will include a welcome and institutional presentation by the director of the museum, James Coll, and Javier Mestre, after which an overview of the artist's career and figure will be offered by Román de la Calle.

Next, the video will be played Henry Mestre, the imprint of the landscape, presented by Rafaela Pareja, and will not be given to a round table coordinated by Carmen Marcos, in which Juan Ortí will participate, Xavier Monsalvatje, Josep Pérez Camps i Antonia Carbonell. The day will continue with the screening of Enric Mestre, personal testimonies and will conclude with a final debate open to the public.

Henry Mestre

Enric Mestre Estellés (1936-2026) He was an exceptional artist, referent of sculpture and plastic expression in ceramics during the last fifty years. His work was not only focused on the artistic creation of works of great aesthetic and technical rigor, but also in materials research and collaboration with leading companies in the ceramic sector. Added to this is an intense teaching career that has decisively marked several generations of artists who use ceramics as their main means of expression.

His work, based mainly on ceramic sculpture, also embraces painting and muralism, with numerous interventions in public works that mark the Valencian landscape. His artistic and critical recognition was accompanied by an important international projection, especially through his participation in the International Academy of Ceramics, of the Executive Council of which he was part and from where he promoted the celebration in Valencia of the 32 AIC General Assembly.

Enric Mestre's relationship with the "González Martí" National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuous Arts has been constant since 1979. The artist participated in exhibitions organized by the institution com 12 Spanish ceramists, Two cultures, a dialogue, Spanish ceramics and their integration in art, Pottery masters and their schools or Talking to a Master. recently, Besides, he received the "Professional Excellence Award" granted by the Association of Friends of the Museum at the proposal of the same center and the museum has incorporated two new works by the artist into its permanent collection.
