Fuenteovejuna

One of the most emblematic works of the theater of the Spanish Golden Age, written by Lope de Vega in 1619. Set in a village in Córdoba, narrates the brave rebellion of the villagers against the tyranny of the Commander. Through a plot full of injustice, oppression and solidarity, Lope explores universal themes such as the fight for justice and collective resistance. The famous unanimous response of the villagers, “Fuenteovejuna did it”, it has become a symbol of community unity and strength, and it has resonated throughout the centuries as a powerful call to action against oppression.
