L’Report on the State of Culture in Spain 2025, which reaches its twelfth edition, analyzes the main challenges facing contemporary societies: the crisis of multilateralism, digital acceleration, geopolitical conflicts and the rise of the so-called "culture wars". The document raises the need to strengthen cultural cooperation and position culture as an essential public good linked to social well-being, sustainability and peace.
In line with the spirit of MONDIACULT 2025, which will be held in Barcelona, the report defends the role of cultural policies against discourses of exclusion and hatred, and claims to consider culture as an essential public service and cultural rights as fundamental human rights. Also, demands that culture be recognized as an independent Sustainable Development Objective in the international agenda after 2030.
The report claims that, in a context marked by institutional fragility and the advance of authoritarian movements, culture is one of the main instruments to combat social polarization and strengthen democratic coexistence.
