The secret map of Bombas Gens

Bombas Gens Digital Arts Center joins the International Day of Museums with a proposal that raises a active visit to its heritage environment. the days 16, 17 i 18 of May, the center invites you to participate in “The secret map of Bombas Gens”, a free activity aimed at the general public and with a special focus on families that proposes to discover in an autonomous and participatory way the historical and architectural heritage of the complex.

During the three days, visitors will be able to freely access the heritage spaces and tour them through a self-guided tour, supported by a new specific plan and accessible contents through a QR guide. The experience presents a dynamic journey, agile and comprehensible due to its singular enclaves, such as the Civil War shelter, the old hydraulic pump factory or the 15th century cellar, combining history, dissemination and play in a format that invites you to explore space as if it were a real expedition.

The tour ends with a challenge that will allow participants to test their knowledge and win different prizes, reinforcing the fun and educational nature of the proposal. Besides, the Mediterranean garden of Bombas Gens will also be open as a rest area during the visit, with option of consumption.

A journey through almost a century of history

"The secret map of Bombas Gens" allows you to delve into the history of this unique heritage environment, considered one of the jewels of Valencian modernism. The building was built in 1930 as a hydraulic pump factory driven by Carlos Gens and Rafael Dalli, the dissenyada for the architect Cayetano Borso of Carminati.

After decades of industrial activity, the closing of the factory in 1991 gave way to a period of abandonment and deterioration, aggravated by a fire in 2014. Three years later, the Fundació Per Amor a l'Art acquired and rehabilitated the building from the hand of the well-known architect Ramón Esteve. In 2024, and thanks to the alliance with Layers of Reality, Bombas Gens Digital Arts Center is born, the first stable center in Valencia dedicated to new technologies applied to creation and immersive digital arts.

This unique heritage complex brings together different layers of history in the same space: the medieval cellar from the 15th century, linked to the old farmhouse of Comeig; the industrial factory, with its iconic art deco facade and the old smelting furnaces; the air raid shelter of the Civil War, memory loaded; and the modernist garden, which integrates art, nature and architecture around Cristina Iglesias' permanent installation.

The museums, meeting spaces

The proposal of Bombas Gens aligns with the motto of the International Museum Day 2026, promoted by ICOM, "Museums uniting a divided world", which underlines the role of museums as meeting spaces, dialogue and inclusion, capable of connecting communities through shared knowledge and experience.

Complementarily, during these days you can also visit the immersive exhibition The legend of the Titanic. The definitive exhibition at Bombas Gens, that after overcoming the 50.000 visitors has extended its sessions for the coming months. The guided tour will also be available “Gen Bombs: Inhabited memory", with daily sessions at 12.00 h. and at 17.00 h.

Participation in "The secret map of Bombas Gens" is free, with prior in-person registration at the same center. A proposal that invites to rediscover Bombas Gens from a contemporary perspective, in an environment where heritage, culture and experience go hand in hand.
