The fifth meeting of the Context Practices cycle. Tools for young job insertion in the art system proposes a critical reflection regarding the implications of linguistic and cultural displacement in contemporary artistic and curatorial practices. If we start from the premise that migrating does not only involve a change of territory, but also the need to live in another language, the activity addresses loss processes, translation, negotiation and reinvention of the self that go through these experiences. From an analytical perspective, the role of language as a border is examined, eina i, sometimes, obstacle within the art system, as well as the influence it has on the construction of identity, artistic practice and professional positioning. Beyond an expository dimension, the meeting seeks to generate a space for listening and collective reflection that allows visibility of the complexities of production, think and communicate from a non-native language, taking into account the symbolic and material displacements that this entails.
The meeting is part of the Culture on Campus-Cultura Jove project, of the University Culture Service, which has the support of the Generalitat Valenciana. It is structured progressively with the aim of articulating critical reflection and analysis of specific experiences. In that sense, begins with an introduction aimed at problematizing the relationship between language, identity and artistic practice in migrant contexts (10 min), followed by a discussion block around language as a device of power, inclusion and exclusion within the system of art (30 min). Next, experiences of artistic production and circulation of works in multilingual contexts are addressed, paying particular attention to the tensions between identity, market and institution (30 min). Later, open a space for dialogue with the public focused on issues and shared experiences (40 min). Finally, it closes with a synthesis that collects the main keys to thinking about language as a structural element in contemporary artistic practice (10 min).
