The SGAE Center Cultural Room hosts a film and debate session to combat HIV stigma organized by AVACOS, the Valencian HIV Association, AIDS and Hepatitis. The short films Piruletas and Generación Positiva will be screened, by the director Carlos Martínez Pérez, that address the reality of HIV in different generations from complementary perspectives.
Starring Kike Poveda, Antonio Jesus Aguilar, Marcos González and Maya Reyes, Piruletas tells the story of a man from 65 years that he is forced to hide part of his life due to the rejection of his own family. The short film won the Best LGTBI International Short Film Award at the 21st Alicante Film Festival 2024. Positive generation, for his part, is a documentary that collects the testimony of three young people who live with HIV and decide to make their situation publicly visible in an exercise of courage that vindicates the right to live without fear or discrimination..
After the screenings, a panel discussion will be held on the rights of older people with HIV., healthy aging and the way in which the epidemic is experienced by new generations. Mª José Fuster will participate (doctor in psychology, executive director of SEISIDA and professor at UNED), Kike Poveda (protagonist of Piruletas), Jesus Cisneros (protagonist of Positive Generation and member of the Executive Commission of CESIDA), Felipe Mendoza(responsible for the Young People in Positive group – AVACOS) and Alberto Puché (member Youth in Positive – AVACOS), moderated by artist and HIV activist Ramón Espacio.
Through these HIVDA stories, The AVACOS association wants to show the experience of people of different generations who live with HIV, to break down prejudices, promote respect and encourage dialogue about health, diversity and human rights.
