About the translator:
My name is Gudrun, I was born in 1998 in El Puerto de Santa María (Cadiz) and almost since then I speak English and Spanish. The French came later and I hope to start with the Italian soon. No, I don't speak German or any Nordic language, although it seems so because of my name. I have a degree in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Granada and a master's degree in Medical-Health Translation from the Universitat Jaume I.. I studied a year of the Degree in TeI at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom, where I received the award for best translation in the Translation Challenge 2018. Right after finishing my degree I went to France to teach in institutes as a conversation assistant. While I work as a freelance translator, I am a student of the Doctoral Program in Applied Languages, Literature and Translation from the Universitat Jaume I and I research the relationship between medicine, medical humanities and literary translation.
Shortly after finishing the master's degree, I started working as a full-time editorial translator. You may have seen books that I have translated, but don't know that I was the one in charge of doing it.. I have translated books like Red Comet: incandescent art and fleeting life by Heather Clark, Pulitzer Prize finalist, Woman and Nature by Susan Griffin, one of the founding books of ecofeminism, Anthology of American Women Poets: de Emily Dickinson a Sylvia Plath, which has gone practically viral on social networks, and The Opoponax by Monique Wittig, the author's first novel, which received the Medici prize and which was prefaced by Marguerite Duras.
I have been invited to talk about my experience as a translator to many places, as in the Telefónica Foundation, to the Reina Sofía Museum bookstore in Madrid, to book fairs, bookstores throughout Spain, institutes… even in casinos! I have also participated in university conferences, international and national, on translation with plenary talks and presentations. Besides, I was extremely lucky to be chosen to participate in the Translator Quarry, organized by the Ibero-American Alliance for the Promotion of Literary Translation in 2023.
Besides all this, I write. I was a finalist for the Adonáis Poetry Prize in 2022, I published my first book of poems The Remoteness of Our Bodies in the Isla Elefante publishing house in 2023 and has been translated into English and Italian. As a poet I have been invited to the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid and the National Library of Spain. I also collaborate in media with journalistic articles about literature, reviews and interviews with authors in media such as CTXT, Ethic, Go, Blank paper and Kaminker. Right now I am working very little by little on my second collection of poems and my first novel.
As a final touch, I am a member of ACE Translators, CEDAR and AEDEAN.
