Literary translation cycle: Special Balkan Literature

“For some time now, Central European literature is experiencing an unexpected editorial effervescence thanks to the work with which stamps, most independent, and translators strive to bring authors and works as unknown as they are fundamental to Spanish or Catalan.. Now that Georgi Gospodinov enjoys popular recognition, that the works of Dario Džamonja or Semezdin Mehmedinović begin to be available to all readers, that Croatian or Bulgarian literature is finding an increasingly significant place on the news tables, making us participants in their peculiar aesthetic sensibility, We want to stop at all these issues and carry out a brief overview with the help of one of its fundamental translators.: Marc Casals.

For it, We will talk about translations and History -of the Balkans and their literature-, of culture and all those names with which to build a map of languages and identities. A literary geography that we will explore with the help of Marc Casals, through the authors, of his work as an essayist and specialist in the Balkans and of that Central European cultural sensitivity that his translations bring to us..

Marc Casals Iglesias was born in Girona in 1980. He was preparing for a career as a translator and interpreter in the EU institutions until, in 2005, destiny took him to the Balkans and he completely changed course. Since then he has lived in Bulgaria, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, traveled through the Balkan peninsula and learned several of its languages. In addition to being a literary translator for the BCM (Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbia) and the bulgarian, He is the author of The Stone Remains.
