The writer and screenwriter Maria Bastaros participate in the third meeting of the cycle Talks about Expanded Fiction, directed by the writer and screenwriter David Pascual, in which we meet with creators from different disciplines who expand the notion of writing beyond the text.
From his narrative work, Bastarós reflects on writing as a tool capable of intervening in tradition, to re-signify territories and cultural milestones. His fictions explore domestic terror, the presence of the unknown inserted in the familiar and the identity crisis. She is the author of the novel History of Spain told to girls (Fulgencio Pimentel, 2019), premio Puchi Award, Cálamo Otra Mirada and Narrative Award from the Valencia Critics Association, from the story book This was not what we came for. (Canada, 2021), finalist for the Setenil Prize in Spain and one of the five best fiction books translated from 2025 para The Guardian, and of Creatures (Six Barral, 2025), edited in the USA by Primero Sueño. He has worked as a scriptwriter for various audiovisual production companies such as Superstar (Addition, 2025). His work, covering literature, the script and cultural and artistic dissemination, goes beyond the limits of the genre to think of fiction as an expanded territory: a space where the historical, the intimate and the magical intertwine.
In this meeting, We analyze with our guest the ways in which fiction invites us to explore darkness and desire, to name the uncomfortable and to rewrite the horror stories inherited from contemporary times.
Throughout the cycle we have had the participation of Estela Sanchis (25 of November) y Monty Peiro (16 December), and soon with Gemma Blasco (25 of May), creators who, from their respective fields, share the same desire to question the dominant narratives and expand the margins of fiction.
