Talks about Expanded Fiction: Gemma Blasco

The filmmaker and screenwriter Gemma Blasco participate in a new session of the cycle Talks about Expanded Fiction, directed by the writer and screenwriter David Pascual, a space for dialogue with creators who expand writing beyond the text.

Trained in Bande à Part and in workshops such as The construction of the character (EICTV, Cuba), Blasco has developed a career that combines formal risk with emotional exploration. After his short film pack (2018), SGAE-New Authorship award at the Sitges Festival, and the experimental feature film The zoo (2018), in 2025 premiere In anger en South by Southwest. The film becomes one of the outstanding titles of the year with three awards from the Official Section of the Malaga Festival, special mention from the jury at SXSW London, six nominations for the Gaudí Awards, two nominations for the Goya Awards 2026, including Best New Director, and a nomination in the Forqué Awards and Feroz Awards.

His cinema, crossed by violence and memory, conceives the construction of the character as a political space. In this conversation we address the film writing processes with her., the relationship between experience and fiction and the tensions between creation and industry in the current context.
