Case Oats is an indie folk-rock band formed in 2018, with a certain and seductive love for what used to be described as alternative country, based on Chicago and formed by Casey Gomez Walker (voice), Max Subar (guitar), Jason Ashworth (low), Scott Daniel (violin) y Spencer Tweedy -Yeah, the son of Jeff Tweedy (battery).
As indicated in the press release for their debut LP, his lyrics talk about baseball caps, horse tails, porch swings and “everything else that fails”, and are interpreted by Casey with a simple yet impassive voice. Songs about moving forward, grow in the Midwest (where she is originally from, hence the title of the album, also), loyalty to people with flaws that despair, gratitude for pain and how things end. All that strong intention is savored when listening “Last Missouri Exit”, whose slight touch of pastiche makes the album sink in effortlessly. Or as they have written in the review of it in Paste Magazine, “with warmth, intimacy and specificity, the Chicago band proves that freshness doesn't have to come from mere novelty, but of the fidelity of the lived experience”.
