The Sala Matilde Salvador of the La Nau Cultural Center of the University of Valencia hosts this Friday 29 of May, to them 19 hours, the premiere in Spanish of Bracelets, the new Amorodio Teatro production directed by Santiago Cortegoso and with dramaturgy by Ernesto Is. The representation, which sold out all available invitations days before the function, also inaugurates the collaboration between the Lluís Vives European School of Thought and the Performing Arts Classroom of the University of Valencia.
The work recovers an episode of symbolic resistance to the Franco dictatorship that occurred on 28 of September of 1975, just one day after the regime's latest shootings. During a match at El Sardinero stadium, Racing de Santander players Aitor Agirre and Sergio Manzanera jumped onto the field wearing black armbands as a sign of protest.
Performed by Javier Castiñeira, Bracelets turns that gesture - apparently discreet, but deeply subversive in the context of a dying dictatorship-, in a reflection on commitment, disobedience and democratic memory.
The production now arrives for the first time in Spanish after its tour in Galician and it does so with great public reception, to the point of completing the capacity of the Sala Matilde Salvador before its premiere. The piece expands, Besides, this memory incorporating other figures of politically committed footballers, from Bebel García, shot at the beginning of Franco's repression, up to Socrates, symbol of resistance during the Brazilian military dictatorship. Through these references, the work poses a critical look at power structures, violence and commercialization that cross contemporary sport.
The function will have the presence and testimony of former Valencian footballer Sergio Manzanera, one of the real protagonists of the story that inspires the work.
The representation is part of one of the priority lines of the University of Valencia: the recovery and dissemination of democratic memory. With this initiative, the institution reaffirms its commitment to a cultural program that understands the performing arts as a space for public reflection and critical memory. Also, Bracelets marks the beginning of the collaboration between the Lluís Vives European School of Thought and the UV Performing Arts Classroom, an alliance aimed at promoting activities that link critical thinking, artistic creation and civic commitment from the university level.
