Composer and director Maria Schneider returns to Spain leading one of the most exciting projects to emerge around big band music in recent years.: his meeting with the Clasijazz Big Band, a formation that has managed to turn musical excellence and collective spirit into an authentic way of life.
Fundamental figure of contemporary jazz and natural heir to the orchestral tradition of Gil Evans, Maria Schneider has redefined the language of the big band in the 21st century with a deeply evocative work, free and cinematic. His music has been described as "majestic, moving and difficult to classify», blurring the boundaries between jazz and classical music. She is one of the few artists to win Grammy Awards in different categories—jazz, classical and even for his work with David Bowie—and accumulates 14 nominations and 7 premios Grammy, in addition to recognitions such as the title of NEA Jazz Master, the Rolf Schock Prize from Sweden or his admission to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
One of the most special moments of the project will be the interpretation of Bulería, Solea y Rumba, one of Schneider's most complex and impressive works, deeply linked to flamenco and Spanish rhythms. For this occasion, The band will have as a guest the saxophonist and singer Antonio Lizana, one of the fundamental figures of contemporary flamenco jazz, whose presence brings a unique and deeply emotional dimension to Schneider's music.
The orchestra will also have the participation of accordionist Philippe Thuriot, Schneider's regular collaborator and one of the most unique voices in European jazz. The squad brings together some of the most outstanding musicians of the current Spanish jazz scene.
