Vives

The work Vives by Gabi Ochoa talks to us about philosophy, of the power of education, of fear as a political instrument, and the importance of disobedience and the struggle to achieve social conquests. The piece is complemented by the music of Pau Alabajos with his voice and a guitar, his fighting tools, and real images from those days of the #valencian spring when the students of the Lluis Vives Institute took to the street with their books aloft to protest against the cuts, the devaluation of public education i, subsequently, against police repression. Susana is a student at that high school, yesterday, the anti-riots took away the illusion based on wafers. Today he is afraid to go to the rally that has been called, this is what he confesses to his philosophy teacher, who quotes Lluis Vivers to comfort her: "Dialogue is what will save it". Jumping in time, of the sixteenth century in which the Valencian humanist lived in the near future, the play by Teatre Escalante talks about the controversial charter schools, of politicians who have mortgaged the future and practice a crude policy, of trilingualism obsessed with expanding English in the classroom, of the false Catalan-Valencian dichotomy, of the frustration of not being able to change things, of the danger of social networks and of a generation with a very dark future that will have to fight if it wants to illuminate the darkness.
