OVERSEAS ROOM. Alzira, 9
Barren (1934) It is one of the three plays that are part of the Lorca trilogy along with Bernarda Alba's house y blood wedding. Yerma is a woman who cannot be a mother and ends up hating herself. This work has always been seen as a tragedy derived from the obsession with motherhood., but… enough is enough! The Alava company Tranpola, with its own language between dance, theater and visual arts, offers us another conscious reading of those dilemmas, largely imposed by social pressure. The same ones that a large part of the team has, mostly women in their early thirties who for various reasons have not been mothers. What if Yerma really didn't want to have children but was “forced” to want them because it's what she had to do?? AU
