Sigismund thinks of a bird, in a flower… “And having more soul, I have less freedom?”, the prince wonders, locked up and chained by his father for fear that the predictions of an oracle will come true that assures that his son will defeat and humiliate him. This piece by Calderón de la Barca has been covered on many occasions., the most famous of the Spanish Golden Age, but this is the first time they do it National Classical Theater Company in co-production with Lazona Theater and the company from United Kingdom Cheek by Jowl. They do it while maintaining the essence of the work, the forceful reflection on freedom that culminates in discovering that life is a frenzy, a fiction, a shadow, an illusion; that all life is a dream, and the dreams, dreams are.
