TALIA THEATER. knights, 31
2018 It was a busy year for Bamablina Teatre Practicable. It won the MAX Award for Best Children's Show for Kitty Power i, per The Celestina, the biggest awards of the brand new Valencian Performing Arts Awards organized by a Valencian Generalitat that wanted to be very present at the gala: Best direction and text adaptation for Jaume Policarpo, Best actress for Àgueda Llorca and Best theater show. With these credentials and after going through the Almagro Festival, the play is presented at the Talia Theatre. Although it is not the first time that the company adapts classics (Quixote, Carmen, The Hunchback of Notre Damme…), Policarpo's challenge was not at all easy: transform into the puppet theater the immortal work of the fifteenth century by Fernando de Rojas, Tragicomedy of Calisto and Melibea, to offer a dynamic and contemporary result. The idea had been in his head for some time, but it was now, with a good dose of temerity, when he decided to tackle this work of great historical relevance and linguistic complexity. In that sense, he has not renounced the poetic language but he has made it more accessible in the mouths of the two actors, Pau Gregori and Àgueda Llorca, who bring a dozen people to life through an unusual puppetry game in which the actor's body is hybridized with the head puppeteer of the characters.
