Enter the legendary Parisian bookstore Shakespeare and Company with Sylvia Beach to meet her partner Adrienne Monnier, to a James Joyce without an editor for his Ulises, a la patron Gertrude Stein or Ernest Hemingway. Hallucinating the somewhat disturbed mind of Aby Warburg, a German art historian who gave up his inheritance to stack books in a library that would be revolutionary, among other things, by leaping from the alphabetical order and organizing the volumes by their thematic affinity following “the law of the good neighbor” that unleashed a cascade of unforeseen connections. This is what it offers us Warburg & Beach, the illustrated story of two booksellers who marked the intellectuality of their time and awakened the fascination of what was to come. At the controls, Jorge Carrión, whose script has clearly drawn from his essay Bookstores (Anagram); and the chiaroscuro drawing by Javier Olivares, illustrator of the wonderful the meninas who won the National Comic Award 2015. And it doesn't end here, Beach and Warburg coexist in this accordion-bound comic with other revolutionary figures from the world of art and literature such as Mary Wollstonecraft, pioneer of feminism and mother of Frankenstein, editor Joseph Johnson, the bookseller Frances Steloff and the artist Marcel Duchamp.
