Miguel Calatayud Defile · 2021
Desfiladero Ediciones has recovered in a single volume two albums from the eighties by Miguel Calatayud from Alicante, great reference for Valencian cartoonists (precursor of the so-called “New Valencian School”) and one of the most respected figures in Spanish illustration and comics., for his series for the magazine Trinca, his children's illustration works and his commissions for posters of all kinds. He has been awarded the National Illustration Prize three times., for more details. In The Atlantic runway Calatayud places the typical private investigator and his partner, tough tough men of yesteryear, in a futuristic environment, an overpopulated planet where humans try to gain ground from the sea, among other means, building a platform that connects the American continent with old Europe. An encounter between the police genre and futurism, which in the end is not so futuristic, variety shows continue to be scheduled, Telephones are not wireless and lighthouses continue to guide maritime traffic. Black and white (and gray), with an avant-garde touch (We remember that it was published in the eighties), and a very characteristic lettering in which the “S” stretch out sleepily, Gili Lacosta and Romo investigate various murder plots, average truths, impersonations and corruption.
