Papaya salad

Liana Editorial · 2019

Papaya Salad is the first graphic novel by Italian-Thai illustrator Elisa Butchers and in it he tells a story based on the real life of his uncle Sampong. He heard it from his own uncle when he visited Bangkok with his parents in 1985 and when he grew up he read it again in a diary that contained his memories. From there, Butchers has built a comic with friendly lines and soft colors that travels from Thailand to a turbulent Europe that has just immersed itself in the Second World War. Sampong had joined the army because the military academy was the only school that offered scholarships to study abroad.. This is how your adventure begins… S.M.
