It was announced days ago and it's here. The biggest film festival in the world is now online and free! Organized by the Tribeca Festival, We are one is a film competition that arises as a result of the cancellations that the world's major festivals have been forced to make due to the spread of the coronavirus.. A global pandemic that required a global response. In this way and for ten days, We will be able to enjoy some of the proposals that have passed through the so-called Class A Festivals in previous editions.. Berlin, London, Cannes, Guadalajara, Macao, Jerusalem, Karlovy Vary, Locarno, Marraquech, Bombay, NY, Rotterdam, Saint Sebastian, Sarajevo, Sundance, Sydney, Tokio, Toronto, Tribeca and Venice sponsor a program that includes more than one hundred pieces with up to thirteen world premieres, which are distributed in 23 fiction feature films, eight documentary works, 72 short films, and several talks with renowned filmmakers and actors from around the world.

It must be recognized that, when this news was given, Some of our eyes popped out of their sockets at the possibility of being able to enjoy these festivals from our home.. But as details of the programming were given, expectations were lowered a little. It is not the same as enjoying the premieres of the current editions of these competitions., that a kind of summary of past editions that, basically, is what this consists of We are one (It must be taken into account that some of them have not yet ruled out the possibility of holding their edition this year), but that does not mean that the proposal is not most interesting.

The program is very extensive and, more than reviewing it, We invite you to explore it for yourself on the festival's YouTube channel. In this case, what we find is a schedule for days. The thing is so well designed that it is very easy to follow. Four colors: green for feature films, red for short films, yellow for series and blue for talks. At the time we are writing this chronicle, the schedule for the first three days is already “up”. But, ojo, This does not mean that the movies are already available. If you click on any link you will see that a message appears that tells you how much time is left before you can see the movies. If you are one of the eager ones and want to explore all the programming to know in advance what may interest you, In that case you can visit the festival website. Over there, in the tab Schedule (program) You will find the complete calendar with links to the technical sheets and synopsis of each work and to the YouTube address where you can see the corresponding film.

Already on the first day we found very interesting things such as several animated short films by the company Dreamworks or more radical proposals such as And then the bear, short presented at the Cannes festival and directed by Agnès Patron. In the field of medium-length film we find pieces such as Electric swan de Konstantina Kotzamani que, after passing through Venice, won the last edition of the Valencian festival La Cabina. Fiction in feature film format starts on the second day with pieces such as Oh God, funny Indian comedy directed by Patreek Vats that could be seen at the last Berlin Film Festival, or the Spanish documentary Mugarotz BSO, in which director Juantxo Sardón proposes a fusion between cooking and music with the help of chef Andoni Luis Adurz and musician Felipe Ugarte, who also co-directs this film, presented to the contest in an exclusive world premiere.

Just dig a little to find little gems.. This is the case of the short film No one left behind, directed by Guillermo Arriaga or the documentary 45 days in Harvar directed by the painter César Aréchiga, around the Guadalajara maximum security prison, Mexico, the tape Sisterhood by Tracy Choi, Dance by the Basque Telmo Esnal, China Wrath of silence, The double steps by Isaki Lacuesta, The order of Cherien Dabis, the indian movie Nasir de Arun Karthick or the Angolan Air conditioner by Fradique, presented at the last Rotterdam Festival.

The very fans who want to get a little closer to making movies, You will find in the section dedicated to meetings with directors a good dose of adrenaline. These are talks recorded at different festivals that we can now enjoy on our television.. Be careful because the list is not bad at all: Guillermo del Toro, Francis Ford Coppola with Steven Sorderberg, Viggo Mortensen y David Cronenberg, John Waters y Albert Serra, Actress Zang Ziyi, Claire Denis o, Careful, the talk that directors Ang Lee and Hirokazu Kore-eda had at the last Berlin Film Festival. There it is! GERARDO LEON
