Seventh edition of the DocsValencia festival dedicated to documentaries. This year, the festival has inscribed in its promotional image, work of the Valencian designer Kike Correcher, the word “Think”, a clear invitation to the viewer to encourage critical thinking in the face of conflicts that affect the world. Let's go with the sections. In the section Global Docs, international in nature, we found five pieces: 42.195 by the Mexican Alejandro Strauss, Into the ice de Lars Henrik Ostenfeld, about the deterioration of glaciers on the planet; Karaoke paradise de Einari Paakkanen, No place for you in our town by the Bulgarian Nikolay Stefanov and Werner Herzog, radical dreamer by Thomas Von Steinäcker on the work of the German filmmaker. The section Panorama It is already appearing on national lands with four works in competition: blue folders by Ander Iriarte, The single by Lucía Casañ Rodríguez, about the figure of the flamenco artist, deaf from birth, what gives name to the job; The negotiators: how to build peace by Rosalind Bain, that reflects the figure of negotiators in different conflicts around the world; y Return to Raqqa by Albert Solé and Raúl Cuevas, which addresses the kidnapping of 19 journalists for the Islamic state. Look collects nine long Valencian documentaries: lost song by Nacho Sirera, The price of gold by Lucía Casañ Rodríguez, on illegal gold extraction in Colombia; Burnt earth flowers by Sergi Tarín, Óskar Navarro and Katherine Muñoz, The three deaths of Teófilo del Valle by Manuel de Juan Navarro, on the worker mobilizations in Elda; Nature of the extraordinary by Ligia Pájaro and Vicente Navarro, a visual poem about the relationship between the ordinary and nature; Novelda-Japan by Alfredo Navarro Benito, sugar by Vicent Pons and Toni Lucas, about pollution in the Xúquer River; A lifetime by Marta Romero, that deals with the issue of Alzheimer's; y I had a life by Octavio Guerra that addresses the life of Jesus, a beggar who begins a reintegration process. The section Fragments is dedicated to Valencian documentary short films and will present up to 16 short pieces.
Among the tributes, This edition of Docs Valencia will dedicate a special program to the director of Valencian origin Llorenç Soler, recently deceased. Chronicler of his time, the cycle dedicates the length Against the NO-DO. Llorenç Soler or the drive for honesty by Albert Montón, that includes his life and professional career, and three of his documentary works: The long journey to anger, about immigration to Barcelona in the sixties; the very renowned Francisco Boix. A photographer in hell, which narrates the experience of the photographer Francisco Boix in the Mauthausen camp in World War II; y From red to blue, about the language conflict in Valencia. The other tribute is to the work of the American documentary filmmaker Godfrey Reggio. Reggio's work goes beyond the document to approach the visual poem or sensory experience. Four works are presented: Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of balance, Powaqqatsi: Life in transformation, In fact: Life as war y The soul of the world, with the invaluable collaboration of musician Phillip Glass. Hay, besides, eight special screenings out of competition. Ithaca. A father. A family. A fight for justice de Ben Lawrence, which narrates the situation of the activist Julian Assange; Sunday Sunday by Laura García Andre, inauguration film; Be my voice by Nahid Persson, Order time by Andreu Signes Pérez, The Kapo by Albert Montón, Allende, my grandfather Allende by Marcia Tambutti Allende, Songs of the wasteland by Felipe Otálora and Cindy Villano; y Damn. A love song to Sarajevo by Raúl de la Fuente and Amaia Remírez. The program includes two round tables about the documentary: Storytelling and non-fiction with Pau Montagud, contest director, around documentary tools, y Drawing the documentary ecosystem, with several specialists linked to the industry.
