Fifth edition of this competition dedicated to fantasy and horror cinema. This year Maniatic offers some new features such as the incorporation of an Official Competition Section with five feature films. With this decision, the contest expands its proposal to attract new audiences, fans of the genre, but they are not used to the short film format, which was the center of the festival until this call. Among the selected films we find two premieres in Spain and three works that come to Maniatic after passing through the Sitges Festival. This section is made up of The medium del tailandés Banjong Pisanthanakun, winner of the Bucheon Fantastic Film Festival and a great success in its country, the North American Till death the S.K. Dale, starring Megan Fox, the canadian Demonic de Neill Blomkamp, in which a scientist contacts the daughter of a serial killer to participate in an experimental treatment, the irish SON by Ivan Kavanagh, y All for Jackson by also Canadian Justin G. Dyck.
In the short films section we find 23 works from all over the world and absolute premieres in our community. Pieces stand out like Tramway, short that has been selected in Sitges and is signed by Carlos Baena, Spanish director based in the US. who has spent almost three decades working for companies like Pixar or Industrial Light & Magic, Carnivore by Lander Castro, selected in festivals like Sitges, Screamfest y Toronto After Dark, o Rachels don’t run by the American Joanny Causse in which, technology things, A telephone operator impersonates a virtual one to be able to talk to a client she is falling in love with.
In addition to the two official sections, Maniatic offers us several parallel activities, also new this year. So, on Friday 29 at 17 hours, in the Vicent Ros Room of the Manises House of Culture, will be projected Nosferatu, Murnau's classic with a live soundtrack by musicians Juan Ángel Gómez, Remi Carreres and Avelino Saavedra. Besides, Saturday 30 at 12 at noon the contest has organized a masterclass of Special Makeup Effects by Mario Campoy and Irene Rio, Goya winners in this category for the film the hole. Finally, we can enjoy the ceramics exhibition FilMonster Ceramic, organized by the Manises Ceramic School, in which his students offer us a series of works inspired by the figure of The Golem.
