New edition of this competition dedicated to making visible the work of women filmmakers around the world. Four sections to contest: long fiction, documentary film, animation and video creation. Total: 47 parts from countries like Germany, Brazil, France, Italy, Belgium, Russia, India, Myamar or Portugal that we can see in the Babel cinemas in Valencia. Among those chosen from the feature film section we find works such as Endless, by the Iranian Maryam Zahirimehr, European debut in the competition Everything’s Better than a Hooker of Ovidie, as well as the Spanish premiere of the documentary family loves by German director Rosa Ziegler, selected in the last edition of the Berlin festival. Regarding shorts, attention is drawn to the inclusion of pieces such as Little pig by the Spanish Carlota Martínez Pereda, nominated for the next Goya Awards as Best Short Fiction, as well as other international premieres such as India Midnight run or the Australian Locker room. The animation and video creation sections are supported by works such as the American ones Bang bang! o Vault of Creatrincos. Among the documentaries we will find a wide variety of proposals covering topics ranging from gender violence, with the premiere of Not an isolated story Brazilian Marta Pinheiro, the different ways of seeing femininity and the social construction of the woman of Everything that I am not, until the portrait of one of the leaders of the National Student Front that faces the dictatorship in Myanmar in Mother at arms by Nu Nu Hlaing.

In addition to the projections, there are many parallel activities. Among them we find the cycle Women behind the camera, dedicated to the documentary filmmaker Helena Lumbrera, o the encounter Dialogues with professionals that this year will deal with two main issues: the actresses who have gone on to direct and the presence of women in film music. The latter will have the presence of the composers Isabel Latorre and Claudia Montero. On this occasion, the traditional round table will address the initiatives that film festivals have been promoting to accommodate equal representation. and two masterclass, one about video creation, taught in l’Octubre by the director Anka Schmidt (member of the competition jury), and another on music in cinema made by the artist Miriam Méndez. This year the invited festival will be the French Films de Femmes which will have a special screening with a selection of its best films. In this edition, the producer María Zamora, from Avalon Company, will receive the tribute of the festival. Among the tapes produced by Zamora we find works like summer 1993 by Carla Simon, or the most recent Notes for a heist movie by Elías León Siminiani. G.LEON
