Kinuyo Tanaka became one of the most famous faces of Japanese cinema. Since he went to work for the Shochiku studios at the age of fourteen, acted in more than 250 movies. As an actress, he collaborated with some of the most relevant directors, com Mizoguchi o Yasujiro Ozu. But, breaking with the canons of the time, Tanaka also carried out an important work as a director that La Filmoteca now wants to highlight with the screening of five of her six feature films. In his work, the roles of women were questioned, their position against breast cancer, the colonial experience, prostitution and sexuality after the Second World War. G.LEON
