The summer heat arrives and, with them, the beach, the beach bars, the nights in the moonlight and… ¡¡¡Cinema Jove!!! New edition of the festival dedicated to cinema made by promising young people from all over the world. Let's look at the sections.
Official Feature Films Section. Ten titles in competition. From Finland it comes to us Family time the Tia Kouvo, drama with shades of black comedy that takes us back to the films of Swedish director Roy Andersson and in which a family brings together three generations to celebrate Christmas. Kouvo delves into his intimacy to show us the decomposition of the contemporary family. All the colors of the world are between black and white by Babatunde Apalowo arrives from Nigeria to convey to us the problems of the LGTBI community in the African country. Two productions come to us from France: The lost boys de Zeno Graton, film that takes us into a juvenile center to tell us the relationship between Joe and William, two boys who find love in a harsh context of repression; y Sons of Ramses by Clément Cogitore, selected in Cannes critics week, a harsh portrait of the lower social classes who find their illusions in the hope sold by a clairvoyant who scams his clientele with false connections with the other world. Australia presents its credentials with Petrol by Alena Lodkina, a risky exercise in style in which the images speak to us more than the plot, in this case, the relationship between Eve, a sound technician, and Mia, a very particular actress. The United States lands with two proposals: This closeness by Kit Zauhar, independent film that tells the story of Tessa and Ben, a young couple spending a weekend in an apartment where they meet a strange roommate; y Starring Jerry as himself de Law Chen, mix of narrative and documentary film to show us the world of telephone scams, loneliness in the elderly and helplessness in the face of the image we have of power. Almost entirely a slight disaster by Umut Subaşi arrives from Türkiye to show us his youth with a formally original proposal, while Yemen lands The burdened de Amr Gamal, powerful story about what happens when, in a religious context, There are conflicts such as the right to abortion.

Short Film Section. Until 56 short pieces make up this section. Among the participants we will find works such as It's bad to see you by Nüll García, Movistar award + from last year that tells us about the reunion of two friends, one paya and the other gypsy, in the bathroom of a shopping center. Other award-winning shorts are Tits de Eivind Landsvik, selected at this year's Cannes festival; China Will you look at me de Shuli Huang, winner of the Queer Palm and jury prize at the Sundance festival; o Please make it work of the Portuguese Daniel Soares, also selected in Locarno and Clermont Ferrand, among others. The animation is represented with the Portuguese Ice merchants by João Gonzalez, nominated for the European Film Awards and the Oscars, and winner of the Leitz Cine Discovery Prize in Cannes 2022; y Magical caresses by Lori Malépart-Traversy. The Valencian short will be represented with four works: the lovers, return of director Joan Vives (The beetle at the end of the street), Shit therapy of the Polo brothers (The mistery of the pink flamingo), That too will happen of Iñaki Antuñano St. Louis and Pepe Abalos, y The visitors, multi-award winning short Enrique Buleo.
Orbits. As a novelty, Cinema Jove proposes this year to launch a section dedicated to new languages and non-fiction cinema. In this first call we will see four Valencian documentaries: I am my mother's daughter by Laura García Pérez, reconstruction of identity through testimonies and home videos of the author; Bull run by Ana Ramón Rubio, in which the director herself reviews her experience as a cryptocurrency addict; I am upright, but I would like it to be horizontal by María Antón Gabot, experimental work that presents us with the impossible encounter between Belén Esteban and the poet Sylvia Plath; y Valencia, i love you by Carlos Gimenez, documentary that narrates the LGTBI history in Valencia from the seventies to the two thousand.

Series. This year the webseries section opens its programming to projects that go beyond the web format. Here we will find jobs from countries like Kazakhstan, Chile, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Russia, Germany and Australia. Among other titles, We will see, out of competition, the canadian Lou and Sophie, he thriller Danish Nordland 99 and the latest from the Spanish modern fucking, fun series with two-minute chapters where the everyday is mixed with the surreal.
High School, 3is. course. Third installment of this cycle dedicated to films that have the institute as the setting for the plots. This year we will see Lady bird by Greta Gerwig, inspired by the director's own childhood; Rock’n’roll high school, the classic by Allan Arkush and Joe Dante with music by the Ramones; the no less classic Donnie Darko de Richard Kelly, with a very young Jake Gyllenhaal in the cast; high stickby Gia Coppola, Francis' granddaughter, about a story by James Franco; y The (of the)Cameron Post Educationde Desiree Akhavan. Outside the United States, we will see three titles: another round de Tomas Vinterberg, Oscar for best foreign film 2021, At home by François Ozon The beauty of things de Bo Widerberg.

True Crime: the new fascination. Cinema Jove offers us a cycle dedicated to recreations of real crimes. Start this selection with In cold blood, Richard Brooks' classic about Truman Capote's novel. The Spanish will follow The murderer of Pedralbes by Gonzalo Herralde and The 7th day of the recently deceased Carlos Saura. Besides, four documentaries based on real events: The thin blue line by Errol Morris, It happened near his house by Benoît Poelvoorde, Remy Belvaux, André Bonzel and Aileen Wuornos, Life and death of a serial killer by Nick Broomfield and Joan Churchill on the figure of serial killer Aileen Wuornos (played by Charlize Theron in the film Monster); y Bowling for Columbine de Michael Moore.
The young man… This year, The section will be dedicated to the first films of the unclassifiable Canadian director David Cronenberg. The selection touches all the obsessions of the master of psychological and horror cinema: They came from within…, Rabia, Voltage in the circuit, Chromosome 3, Scanners, Videodrome y The dead zone, unforgettable adaptation of Stephen King's novel with a brutal Christopher Walken in the cast.
