42 together

“Hybridations” is the motto that guides the 42 edition of the Ensems festival, The idea is to mix the traditional with the contemporary, uniting classical groups with more avant-garde ones so that, together, look for new sounds. And who better than Niño de Elche to personify hybridization and experimentation in the music scene of this country? The sins of the cities of the plain [18/9] It is the dramatic version of Niño de Elche, OCNOS and Germán Alonso project based on the book of the same name published in 1881 about the memories of a hustler, Jack Saul, who was involved in the Cleveland Street scandal. A homosexual brothel on Cleveland Street (London) was discovered in 1889, When sex between men was illegal in Britain, and the British government was accused of covering up the “scandal” to protect several aristocrats involved in the affair.. The curious thing about the matter is that the book was written in a cryptographic language that was spoken by the homosexual community of the time to be able to communicate more freely without fear of being persecuted and condemned..

Ensems cannot be celebrated in spring because of the fortunate covid-19, but the festival has managed to move the 75% from its initial programming to the months of September and October. Maintaining, even, the presence of some international groups such as The Riot Ensemble [28/9], which debuts in Spain Solstices, a very demanding piece for instrumentalists because they must perform it in total darkness, or of Together Research [20/9] from Friborg, an ensemble that is dedicated to the performance of contemporary music since 1985 and that in Valencia it will include in its repertoire a work by the Valencian composer Marc García Vitoria. In the local section it could not be missing Amores Percussion Group, collaborating with Meliana artist José Antonio Orts [30/9] and interpreting his latest work, Dreizhen, best repertoire album at the Carles Santos awards 2018 [23/9]. In it they interact with very important characters in the history of music who are almost 800 years apart: Hildegard of Bingen, a holy composer of the 12th century, y Karlheinz Stockhausen, German composer who for many is one of the greatest visionaries of 20th century music. There will be much more in this atypical edition of Ensems, take a look at the entire schedule. AU
