The legendary Kid Congo Powers, whose real name is Brian Tristan, he is a guitarist, American singer and actor known worldwide for being a member of three of the bands (three!! who tops this??) most influential, seminal, sexy and swampy of all time when it comes to r'n'r: The Gun Club, The Cramps y Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He has also played with Divine Horsemen, Angels of Light, Die Haut y Knoxville Girls.
Born in La Puente, California, Kid Congo is a second generation Mexican American. His early childhood influences were the Southern California Chicano rock band Thee Midniters.. He soon met glam and punk and in 1976 He was president of the Ramones fan club and later directed the fanzine of the legendary The Screamers..
After traveling to London and New York, returned to Los Angeles and 1979 met Jeffrey Lee Pierce. who taught him to play open-tuned guitar and they formed The Creeping Ritual, band that later became The Gun Club. Powers left the group before their recording debut to join The Cramps in 1980. In 1983 rejoined Gun Club, with whom he toured Australia the following year and then again between 1985 y 1988. At the same time, in 1986, He joined Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Berlin, recording several albums and playing their corresponding tours..
In 1990 decided amicably with Nick Cave to leave his Bad Seeds to focus on The Gun Club who reunited again, but after recording several albums, tours, comings and goings, Fatality caused the parka to take the leader of the band too young., Jeffrey Lee Pierce, in 1996.
