WALT WEISKOP's European Quartet

El saxofonista Walt Weiskopf presenta Diamonds and others en Jimmy Glass. The great American saxophonist and composer Walt Weiskopf (Augusta, Georgia, 1959), one of the best soloists of his instrument today, returns to Jimmy Glass on Thursday 16 January accompanied by his renowned European Quartet, composed by the elite of European jazz.

Weiskopf began his career in New York with the Buddy Rich Big Band in 1981. Since then he has left an impressive mark as a leader with twenty-three critically acclaimed albums with great contemporary musicians such as Brad Mehldau, John Patticci, Clarence Penn, Donald Edwards, Peter Washington, Billy Drummond, Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein, Bill Steward, Drew Gress, Renee Rosnes, Joe Magnarelli o Doug Weiss. He has also participated as a collaborator on nearly seventy albums with stars such as Buddy Rich., Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, Donald Fagen, Boz Scaggs o Michael McDonald, among many others.

In addition to being considered a dynamic performer with enormous technical skill, Weiskopf has also stood out as a composer. His recordings as a leader predominantly contain original songs and unique interpretations of standards.. Walt's seven books on jazz improvisation are among the most respected and sought after in that field.

“Walt Weiskopf's main influence as a musician appears to be John Coltrane, but he is not a slavish imitator. Go deeper in a powerful and positive way, with your own point of view. Demonstrates numerous technical achievements, but it makes them sound basic and accessible” (Mel Martin, Saxophone Journal). The quartet is completed with one of the most solid foundations of European jazz, with which he has recorded his last four albums: Carl Winther (piano), Andreas Lang (double bass) y Anders Mogensen (battery).
