After the torrential rains that fell in the past 29 of October in the Albufera watershed, especially in the barranc de Xiva or Rambla del Poyo, the exceptional and catastrophic nature has been noted, also from an environmental point of view, of this unusual event. Among other effects, there has been a massive arrival of solid and liquid waste of various composition and volume which has caused alterations, with different degrees of attachment, in various sectors of some ecosystems of this protected natural space.
During these weeks and in the coming months, always in accordance with the directions given by the management office of the Albufera Natural Park, we will be making calls for volunteers in order to gradually remove some of this waste, mainly solids.
In concrete terms, the Assut Foundation has begun to focus this intervention on the left bank of the ravine, in the municipality of Massanassa, in a traffic area between the vegetable garden and the rice paddy where the overflow of the Avinguda d'Aigua has deposited a large amount of material coming in part from the industrial and commercial estates of the affected municipalities: containers of all kinds, bottles and flasks with dangerous contents, medicines and cosmetics, bundles of plastics from recycling plants, bags of pellets, polystyrene plates, bulky elements, vehicle parts…
In addition to the vegetable garden and the Marjal de Massanassa, other agreed action areas, right now, between the Albufera Natural Park and different organizations are the port of Catarroja and the surrounding rice fields, and the beaches of the southern sector of the Devesa, between the mouth of the Pujol gola and the Punta beach.
