The Valencian artist Rocío Garriga brings us closer to the history of the bombed zoos during World War II. From this historical fact, The artist presents a reflection on the vulnerability of the bodies of animals and people in the face of any type of violence.: the one that is violated in wars, that suffered by environmental catastrophes or the exposure of people to the judgment of others. This is the third chapter of an investigation that Rocío Garriga has been carrying out for several years and that began with the exhibition 'The law of the mirror' in 2018 about Warsaw Zoo, later in 2023 'The Double Image' was exhibited about the destruction of London Zoo (both exhibited in the Freijo Gallery in Madrid) and continues now at the Center del Carme with this exhibition focused on the bombings of the Hamburg zoo. Through historical documents and contemporary works, This last proposal addresses the vulnerability, violence and exposure to the gaze of others. The exhibition includes photographs, original documents and objects that not only contextualize but also dialogue and intertwine with the nine sculptures and installations made by Rocío Garriga expressly for the exhibition. The different contemporary proposals play with a double perspective: Depending on the angle from which the viewer looks, they can see the image of a flock of birds or the flight of bombers during the war., as is the case of the piece 'Black on white' (2024-2026), made of enamelled borax glass and woven velvet.
