Luisa Mañez visits us to present her first novel “Escicha” (Ed. Talent), ffinalist for the XLV Valencian Literary Criticism Award in the narrative category. With José Vicente Peiro.
About the book:
The escicha –misfortune– has settled in El Agua Vieja, a farmhouse lost in a village in La Mancha in the first half of the 20th century. Severo and Graciana are victims and protagonists of fatality and human corruption. Graciana's story reflects the cruelty to which the woman was subjected, aggravated by the conflict of their gender identity.
Still today, to the oldest inhabitants of the Sierra del Segura, when they pronounce "misfortune", The corners of their mouths hang down and they distort the term until it becomes "escicha.". This word carries the full weight of a bitter evocation, of a regression to be narrated in a place as arid as some of the lives of its inhabitants.
