The Show Must Go On: 35 years of activism of HIV and AIDS at the CommitteeVLC

The exhibition, which is presented in the General Study Hall of the Cultural Center The Ship of the UV, offers a documentary and artistic journey through more than three decades of activism against HIV and AIDS in the city of Valencia, with the commitment of the Comité Ciudadà Antisidas (CommitteeVLC) as the guiding thread of the expository story.

Organized by Vice-Rectorate of Culture and Society of the University of Valencia and the Comité Ciutadà Antisida, with the collaboration of several institutions, the exhibition is a walk through the streets of Valencia, scenario of the VLC Committee's commitment, founded the year 1989 from the urgency and courage of the people most vulnerable to HIV and their families. Their story is the chronicle of how they knew how to organize themselves, take care of yourself and build a strong social and community fabric on the margins of a society marked by misinformation and the fear of AIDS.

'The Show Must Go On' traces a narrative map through a careful selection of photographs, posters, documents, news, songs, objects and witnesses. The exhibition ranges from medical advances and social conquests to the persistence of political and collective challenges today.

The project has the contribution of works by national and international artists and collectives, and integrates key names in the visualization of the AIDS crisis as General Idea, Keith Haring, Zoe Leonard, Alejandro Kuropatwa, Jesus Martinez Oliva, Donald Moffet i Yesterday Today. This story is joined by other fundamental figures of art and activism such as now: Pilar Albarracin, Pepe Miralles, Diego del Pozo, Miguel Andres, Águeda Bañon, and the collectives The Silence=Death, LSD i La Radical Gai, among others.
