Sorolla between Chapí and Serrano. Valencia Symphony Orchestra

Can a paint resonar like a melody? What rhythms and harmonies beat under the surface of a Mediterranean canvas? ‘Sorolla between Chapí and Serrano’ proposes to explore the sensitive and imaginary relationships between three essential figures of our culture and at the same time pay them a well-deserved and sincere tribute.. An artistic evocation, more than a documentary demonstration, about the relationship between these three creators who, from different languages, they knew how to portray the same world: that of the Valencian soul, popular and bright.

Joaquín Sorolla (1863-1923), painter of Mediterranean light, He shared his time with two great Valencian composers, Ruperto Chapi (1851-1909) and José Serrano (1873-1941). Although Sorolla did not express himself extensively about music in his letters or writings, His pictorial universe dialogues naturally with the sound sensitivity of his contemporaries.

Ruperto Chapi, native of Villena, He was an innovator of the zarzuela grande and a symphonic composer of the first order.. Jose Serrano, native of Sweden, author of our Anthem of the Valencian Community, like few others he embodied the popular lyrical sentiment. Both cultivated a music deeply rooted in the earth, full of emotion and color. Sorolla's painting, with its vibrant rhythm, its traditional scenes and its exaltation of the sun, seems to have its counterpoint in the music of Chapí and Serrano.

this concert, where fragments of the well-known zarzuelas such as: The Sorrowful, The Song of Oblivion, The Moorish Queen, The Revoltosa, The Witch, among other; It is not intended to document a direct relationship, but to rebuild a climate. through music, the image and the word, We are approaching a Valencia that shone in multiple arts and whose modernity still resonates.
