RYAN DAVIS AND THE ROADHOUSE BAND is the solo project of American musician Ryan Davis, originally from Louisville (Kentucky) and currently based in Jeffersonville (Indiana).
Davis, of 40 years, He is a vivid storyteller., with lyrics full of ironic humor, devastating images and unexpected twists, all wrapped in an alternative country sound. He has collaborated with David Berman (Purple Mountains) and in projects like Equipment Pointed Ankh or Tropical Trash, maintaining a two-decade career with sold-out tours and positive reviews in 2025–2026.
Born in Louisville, He spent his childhood in southern Indiana and studied in Chicago, where he began his musical career as a skateboarder and regular attendee at hardcore concerts before forming his own bands.
To the 20 years founded State Champion, a garage-noise rock band with violin and guitar that remained active for 15 years, releasing albums on independent labels. In 2007, while finishing college in Chicago, created his own label, Sophomore Lounge, to release their music and support a small circle of friendly bands on regional tours.
Along with James Ardery, co-founded the Cropped Out festival (2010–2018) on the banks of the Ohio River, which hosted artists like Bill Callahan and Pissed Jeans, and revitalized his connection to the Louisville music scene.
After State Champion's last album in 2019 and the impact of the pandemic, Davis stepped away from touring to focus on visual art and new instruments such as analog keyboards and drum machines.. From this process RYAN DAVIS AND THE ROADHOUSE BAND was born., a freer and less structured project, with unpredictable arrangements that combine freak folk, country and a narrative American.
