Ripoll master, freethinker and martyr: Materials for memory

The Civic and Communication Association (Acom) presents the publication of the book Ripoll mestre, freethinker and martyr: Materials for memory, a rigorous investigation into the figure of Gaietà Ripoll, Valencian teacher condemned and executed for heresy during times of inquisitorial repression. The event will take place on Friday 19 of December of 2025 to them 18.30 h a l’Aula 1 of OCTOBER, Contemporary Culture Center, (Calle Sant Ferran, 12)

The work, written by Rafael Solaz and Emili Renard, recovers the trajectory and historical context of Ripoll, who was accused of practicing deistic and liberal doctrines, and was executed on 31 of July 1826 in the Plaça del Mercat de Valencia by an inquisitorial tribunal. The book explores this history with detailed documentation, including consultations in the Secret Archives of the Vatican, highlighting the role of dogmatism and social control in that historical period.

  • Raquel Ortiz, activist and founder of Valencia Laica
