The SGAE Center Cultural Room Valencia hosts the presentation of two short films entered in the 40th edition of the Goya Awards. This is Sand Bellies, by Pablo and Álvaro Montes Sánchez, which aspires to be nominated in the category of Best Documentary Short Film, and from Pálpito, by Moisés Romera and Marisa Crespo, in the Best Fiction Short Film section. The first will be screened at 18 hours and Pálpito at 19 hours. With presentation and discussion by the filmmakers.
Written and directed by Pablo Montes Sánchez and Álvaro Montes Sánchez, Bellies of sand focuses on the Sahrawi population who since 1976, when Morocco occupied Western Sahara, lives in the refugee camps in the Tindouf region of Algeria. They are more than 170.000 people who, in inhospitable conditions, subsist thanks to humanitarian aid that is decreasing. He 6% of them, besides, faces an added difficulty: celiac disease. Sand Bellies has been screened in more than a dozen national and international festivals, and has won the award for Best Documentary Short Film at the CENCOR festivals – Orcasitas National Short Film Competition, FESCILA – La Almunia Film Festival and World Food Forum Film Festival of Rome (Italia). The Decortoán Joven contest, from Jaen, awarded him the Award for Best Short Film with International Cooperation Content.
For your part, Pálpito is a thriller written and directed by Marisa Crespo and Moisés Romera, and starring Cristina Fernández, Angel Fígols, Jordi Ballester and María Maroto. It revolves around a tarot reader who becomes obsessed with the feeling that a terrible misfortune is going to happen.. The woman will do everything possible to avoid her. Pálpito has circulated with great success for more than 75 festivals from all over the world and adds up to around 40 awards; among others, Best Short Film at festivals such as the Delta Film Awards – Festival of Fantastic Films (Manchester, United Kingdom), Alicante Film Festival, Paracuellos de Jarama Short Film Festival or FANTAELX – Elche International Fantastic Film Festival.
