In the second session of the film cycle 'Expanded session', the movie El Planeta will be shown (Amalia Ulman, 2021, 79 min), with presentation and discussion by Las Entendidas, curators of the cycle.
Nascuda to Argentina, raised in Spain and residing in the United States, Amalia Ulman is a multidisciplinary artist who addresses in her works the problems of class and gender. His works, narrated mainly in the first person, they blur the distinction between the artist and the object of study, often creating humorous and subtle deceptions, while exploring class imitation and the relationship between consumerism and identity. In 2021 will premiere at the Sundance Festival El Planeta, his first feature length fiction film, and his last film, Magic Farm, with Chloë Sevigny as a protagonist, it could be seen in the past editions of Cannes and Berlinale.
El Planeta is a black comedy that explores contemporary poverty, feminine desire and the always complicated filial relationships between mothers and daughters. No money and about to be evicted, Leo and his mother are united in their misfortune as they plot, they deceive and swindle to achieve a lifestyle beyond their means.
The proposal for film Tuesdays at the IVAM aims to make the museum an interdisciplinary space that activates a conversation between the arts and the museum as an arena of contemporary creation. With a police station in charge of the Understandings, the cycle presents a monthly selection of audiovisual proposals of artistic and social interest that have had little - or no - presence in the city's exhibition circuits and, that's why, it is planted like a rare grandparents, giving the IVAM a special meeting place. The project wants to encourage a horizontal conversation, next and next. Bringing creators and never-before-seen proposals to the city, also encouraging support for local creation networks and Valencian projects. Besides, the cycle will have special guests, creators, filmmakers and professionals of the audiovisual, in order to offer a meeting around the projection and discussion of his work.
*Attendance at each of the sessions will be free until capacity is reached. The registration requirement is only for those who wish to be part of IVAM's cinephilia and its complementary activities.
