An experiential film session towards the loudest sound recorded on Earth.
The proposal for film Tuesdays at the IVAM aims to make the museum an interdisciplinary space that activates a conversation between the arts and the museum as an arena of contemporary creation. With a police station in charge of the Understandings, the cycle presents a monthly selection of audiovisual proposals to encourage horizontal and close conversation. In this last session of the program 'Expanded Session. The IVAM film club will be shown, in a special way, 'Krakatoa', by Carlos Casas.

The eruption of Krakatoa is considered one of the most devastating natural disasters. It produced the loudest sound ever emitted by the Earth and from that event were created some of the most extraordinary natural landscapes and sunsets that humanity remembers. Beyond its meteorological influence, geological and biological, the eruption and subsequent disaster changed our conception of nature and our connection to it.

Not Krakatoa, Kesuma, a fisherman from Bagan, he survives on his fishing platform a few kilometers from the volcanic island. After a hard night of fishing, Kesuma spends the day exhausted repairing his networks and taking care of his platform. Without notice, a gigantic explosion occurs and a tsunami envelops everything. Kesuma wakes up on a mysterious desert island.. He is now a castaway. After exploring the island he finds a cave in which he can take refuge and prepare for the final sacrifice.

With the extraordinary sound design of Nicolas Becker (Oscar winner for Sound of Metal), 'Krakatoa' (Carlos Casas, 2026, 73 minutes) Create a sensorial odyssey on the adventure, ecology and the force of nature merge. Filmmaker and artist Carlos Casas seeks new ways to connect cinema with the experience of nature, capturing on the screen a deep look at the fragility and greatness of our planet.
