Presentation of “Broken Fate El Velázquez by Emmanuel Fremiet, between art, history and memory (Ed. Velázquez House), by Nancy Berthier. Presents the author the artist Carmen Calvo. This book presents an original investigation from the visual arts on the "destiny" of a work deeply marked by history.: the equestrian statue of Velázquez made by Emmanuel Fremiet at the end of the 19th century. Supported by extensive archival work and detailed image analysis, The study follows the different "lives" of the sculpture and its successive resignifications, from its creation in France and its exhibition in the Louvre gardens to its transfer to 1935 a Madrid, in the gardens of the House of Velázquez, where it was mutilated during the Civil War and later restored. Beyond this particular case, The work invites us to reflect on the ability of artistic objects to survive, transform and continue interrogating the present.
