Olivier Wieviorka

The French historian Olivier Wiviorka will participate in a round table Wednesday 26 of November, to them 18.15 h, in the Palm tree Room of the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Valencia. The initiative is organized by the Alfons Cucó Chair of the UV, the French Institute of Valencia and the Viceroority of Culture and Society, through the Culture als Campus program.

Wieviorka is professor at the École Normale Supérieure (Paris), member of the Institut Universitaire de France and is unanimously recognized as one of the greatest Francophone specialists in the Second World War. His work, which includes several books and documentaries, has redefined the way to approach the wide range of moral options, political and social in the studies on the French Resistance, the Vichy regime and the collective memory of the 20th century.

This meeting comes as a result of his most recent academic work, 'Total history of World War II', and will allow an in-depth debate on his historiographical reflections, his research process and how he understands the role of the historian in the construction of memory.

The round table will be presented by Sergio Valero, director of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of the UV and the Alfons Cucó Chair of European Political Reflection, and will also include the intervention of Aurelio Martí Bataller, UV Contemporary History Teacher. Consecutive French-Spanish translation will be provided. Entry is free and limited to room capacity.
