Since his arrival in New York in 1975, David Murray established himself as one of the most important jazz saxophonists. His style of improvisation is unmistakable, deeply respecting the jazz tradition while fusing influences such as gospel, free jazz, R&B and his collaborations with great American writers. To the gene of 2023, Murray formed a new quartet that debuted with a series of sold-out concerts at the Village Vanguard. Critics agree that he is at his best, highlighting his mastery and the energy of his new group: Marta Sánchez on the piano, Luke Stewart on bass and Russell Carter on drums. Murray says there is no better feeling than introducing young, creative musicians who aspire to be the best. Critics emphasize his artistic maturity, his ability to play with strength and fluidity, and his imposing presence as a soloist.
