It is not easy to be Valencian / It is not easy to be Valencian

It is not easy to be Valencian / It is not easy to be Valencian is L'ETNO's new permanent exhibition, Valencian Museum of Ethnology of the Provincial Council of Valencia, that this Thursday was presented by the representative for Culture, Xavier Rios, the director of l'ETNO, Francis Tamarit, and the conservative Joan Seguí, in the Cultural Center of Charity. The permanent exhibition, curated by Joan Seguí, Asunción Garcia and Josep Aguilar with the collaboration of the entire museum team, opened again to the public after the reform with a dialogue from the perspective of cultural identity. More than 1.500 square meters of collections linked to traditional and popular Valencian culture with a route through three areas: the city, where questions related to the tension between what is global and local are raised; Hortes and Marjal, where some of the imaginaries that are usually projected in Valencian culture are discussed; and the Secà and the Mountain, where are the invisibilities, what is not seen or little is known about the interior areas of the Valencian territory, what a fan of fil driver to the visit. The objectives of this project were twofold: make a new museography for the City Hall, that with 15 years of existence had already fulfilled its role; and update the speech of all the permanent rooms, giving it a more contemporary look. For that, the new design of Ciutat has been thought in line with what was already considered museographically in the rooms of Horta i Marjal I Secà i Muntanya. on time, while the discursive skeleton built by geocultural areas (city, Horta i Marjal i Secà i Montanya) is keep, the hitherto available discursive structure has been completely changed. The basic idea has been that in each of the areas a topic related to issues of cultural identity will be discussed (the Valencian in this case) in the contemporary world. Like this, in the Cities section, issues related to the tension between the Global and the Local are developed (Glocal); in the section dedicated to Hortes and Marjals we talk about Imaginaries related to these spaces (The Barrack, Paella...) and that so powerfully defines "being Valencian". Finally, in Secà and the Mountain, the speech tells us about Invisibility in reference to everything that is typical or common in our interior lands and that nevertheless remains invisible in the eyes of many and many (Valencians or not).
