The Valencian singer Mara Aranda, international reference and ambassador of Mediterranean music, announces the completion of his largest recording project to date: ‘Geographies of the Diaspora’. This five-volume collection represents a milestone in the recovery of the sound heritage of the Iberian Peninsula, after 35 years of an impeccable professional career of the artist.
The official presentation of this work will take place on 8 March to 19:00 hours in the Torrent Auditorium, an unmissable event for lovers of historical music and Mediterranean culture.
A medieval soundtrack
The collection brings together 65 unpublished pieces or sparsely interpreted, recorded with historical instrumentation and the collaboration of Syrian musicians, Morocco, Israel, Italia, Germany and Canada, among others. This research effort has led Aranda to carry out residencies in key enclaves such as Thessaloniki, Istanbul and Jerusalem, in order to connect the repertoire with its original historical context.

Dr.. Susana Weich-Shahak, eminence in the Sephardic oral tradition, highlights the relevance of the project: “Mara Aranda offers a respectful tribute to tradition. The number of romances chosen is notable., faithfully reflecting the Moroccan Romancero and its deepest Iberian roots, that the Jews kept alive for more than five centuries”.
